Part III. The Snooze Tapes

Read them here. Meanwhile, Aishwarya's lawyer says that the actress will "wait and watch" before she releases a statement. (Because procrastination has worked for her before?). And the HT describes her as "a slave to passion." Recapping Rai's numerous flings, it offers us this snippet:
"People now forget about her torrid affair with Ranjeev Mulchandani, a top model at the time. Mulchandani was seeing Manisha Koirala, then one of Bollywood's top heroines, but happily two-timed her with Ash. Matters came to a head when Manisha found love letters that Ash had written to Ranjeev and confronted him. The media lapped up the scandal. Manisha's career soon nose dived, and Mulchandani gave up modeling. But Ash came out of the affair smelling of roses."
Love letters? This must have happened a long time ago. Update: Mulchandani owns a restaurant in Goa, and Koirala, after co-starring in several skin flicks, is allegedly working on a film for her brother Siddharth. And Salim Khan, 75-year-old, beleaguered father of Salman, writes him an open letter in the Gujarati Mid Day. And these guys live in the same house?
"You know son, you have a weakness, which is that you are too gullible. Everybody around you, is using you. Your niceness works to your disadvantage. You have a million girls after you; it does not matter if one out of those millions has abandoned you. More so, you cannot lose control over your life for that one girl. Son, I’m always with you. But you have to understand and learn to conduct your life in a better way. This is the right time to take charge of your life all over again. People make mistakes and one has to learn from those mistakes and move ahead in life. I don't want people to call you a fool who hasn't learnt from his mistakes. You don't have to be known as a bad human being. You have to be known as the man who earned the respect of millions."
Aah, a father's love. Only daddy could describe what Salman has done or undone, so far as "niceness." Running over people? Nice. Poaching? Nice. Sleeping with the Underworld. Awfully nice. Read the rest here.

Somi: 'You fled in such a way that your oxygen is there'; heh!
And Ash... really speaks English so strangely?!

Mangs, I think Ash was dumbstruck by how stupidly brazen her boyfriend was to say the things he did on a tapped phone.
As for Somy. Snore.
Actually I wonder where she is now. Probably in America counselling Khan over the phone.

This update from Mid Day:
"If you think Salman Khan is sitting at home biting his nails in fear, you are gravely mistaken.

The actor may have stayed away from the premiere of his film, Maine Pyar Kyun Kiya, on Thursday, but it was only to avoid being mobbed by the media.

The ‘scared’ star partied till 5 am at his Bandra residence with friends and family the same night, to celebrate the film’s release.

In fact, the next morning, the actor had to cancel the shooting of his film, Jaaneman, at Film City, Goregaon.

Sources said that Salman told his friends that since he could not get out of the house he would party at home.

So, after the premiere, trooping into the Khan house, were among others, David Dhawan, Sajid Nadiadwala, Fardeen Khan, Zayed Khan, brother Arbaaz Khan and wife Malaika and girlfriend Katrina Kaif."

Words are not enough.

SF: so, HT broke the salman story. so far so good. but at least two tv channels claim that they were in the possession of the tapes, and that they were tying some loose ends.

indiantelevision.com clears the haze: "HT correspondent who broke the story actually had been working on the matter for some months when he was, reportedly, working for a TV news channel. The tape was in his possession since then. And, then the journalist hopped over to HT in Mumbai taking along with him the tape and the story that had all the ingredients of a Bollywood potboiler."

now, i find this fa more interesting

Sonia....didn't you know....to be a nice guy you need certain qualifications...

Kill a few endangered animals, run over some people, sleep with every actress you can lay eyes on, beat up a few random people (including some girlfriends), and kissing up to the underworld.

Aw...comeon, he's just "misguided", and has run in to some "bad company" who are misleading him.

AB: You find the media far more interesting, because you're in the media! :) But yes, it's fascinating. I had no idea. Didn't the cover first come out without a byline?

Sunil: Isn't it staggering how everyone describes him as a "nice guy." As though that's enough. Like it should matter that he is rich, and an actor, and has David Dhawan to run to Gopinath Munde on his behalf, and beg him to call off the agitation.

In any country with a fair and developed justice system, these factors would not in any way obfuscate the crimes committed. (Don't start on MJ and OJ!)

He must be tried, not because he's an actor, but because he's a human being who has broken the law before and appears to have done so again.

Are bloggers the only ones who see this obvious truth?!

I think most people see this obvious truth....but in India, the justice system is so delayed and warped, that anyone (with even the slightest amount of power) can evade it.

"What will you do if you were prime minister of India" is a favorite topic for school essays. Some friends and I brought this up in some dinner conversation. Most of us were dreaming the utopian.

One of my friends violently declared....."I will change the justice system. If every single person in India is assured of justice that is quick and impartial, we wont have today's problems".

Utopian in its own way perhaps, but perfect in analysis.

Sonia

I like your views.

I recently ran a similar thread here

One of the commenters sent me a PM about an article that Pritish Nandy wrote in the TOI, title Lynch Mob Out To Get Salman

I find this part especially incredulous

What you have are barely audible tapes of what appears to be private phone conversations between Salman and Aishwarya Rai who were lovers once.

Come on maan....this man has been breaking the law ever so often. Be it the car accident, or the buck killing and now this. Why treat him with kid gloves because he is an actor ?? I think it is high time the judiciary system prioritize this incident and meet out justice.

Pls get the facts right. You shud hear the so called 'Salman's Tapes' before passing the judgement.

1. Voice on the tapes doesnot sound like Salman Khans or Aishwariya Rai in any sort of way.

2. The the newspaper that published this Article did so on the day of their newspaper launch in Mumbai. Just intime with Salman Khans new movie release. The TV channel that aired the tapes did so to increase their TRP rateings since the channel is experiencing heavy financial losses.

3. If the Mumbai police had these 'TAPES', then they would have acted on them 4 yrs ago but no action was taken. And i dont think that Salman Khan is that big of a man in terms of MONEY or INFLUENCE to have been able to keep such a thing under wraps. If these tapes were TRUE, then the Mumbai police would have acted on them as it would have boosted their efficiency and dedication towards the betterment of the MUMBAI CITY. Plus proving that they are not biased towards the RICH and FAMOUS.

4. The BJP and Shiv Sena parties are supporting such kind of non-sense issue inorder to distract the public from their own internal party issues. For example, BJP with the RSS and Advani problems and Shiv Sena with the ex-minister Rane.

5. The Mumbai police did not leave Sanjay Dutt when his name came up in the Bombay Blasts investigation, inspite of Dutt family's high political connections, then who is Salman Khan.

I am not saying that Salman Khan is GOD sent GIFT to our Planet, the man has his flaws just as we all have our own. Its not right that the MEDIA alwaz buttchers someone else's selrespect for their own personal gain. Salman Khan for your information has done alot for the cancer hospitals, orphanages and the old age home in Mumbai city. But never has he publically mentioned his good deeds unlike some of our political parties and movies stars who would go to any extent to hogg the limelight. What have these Newspaper or TV channels every done ?? Do they donate money from their collections towards needy and helpless ??? The answer is 'NO'. As for his problems with Aishwarya Rai, well thats their personal issue, and we have no right to judge their PAST RELATIONSHIP. Today they both are happy in their own world.

For me Salman Khan is INNOCENT.

Arzan,

I understand that you do not think much of Mr. Nandy and his article on Salman Khan. BUT how can you turn a blind eye towards the fact that he has presented in his article. You are ready to believe Mr. Vir Sanghiv and his HT troop who till now have yet not disclosed the TRUE IDENTITY of their source or have presented the TAPES to the Mumbai Police BUT instead you feel/think that Salman Khan is a TRAITOR and the MUMBAI COPS are USELESS.

You do not think that the HT troop shud be questioned for keeping such TAPES away from the MUMBAI PUBLIC and POLICE for so long and present them just intime of the newspaper launch. Now there is a fight among two TV channels claiming to having the tapes.....this only goes on prove to what extent the MEDIA can stoop to gain their own self interest.

As for Ms. Sonia's blog, well she may be sarcastic in her comments but thats all there is to it. NO VALID POINTS...she is simply repeating what the HT and Bloggers like yourself have commented. She is basing her comments on Salman's PAST then why is his present GOOD DEEDS being ignored by her and bloggers like yourself.

YOUR NOT LIKING SALMAN KHAN THE ACTOR IS NOT A GOOD REASON TO JUSTIFY HIM AS A TRAITOR. It just seems a matter of convient beliveing.

Vir Sanghiv and his 'Sleezy Times' group shud go and watch 'Maine Payar Kyun Kiya' and 'JUST CHILL'. :)
